Last weekend was The Bean's birthday, and her party was bigger than I expected. I guess I kind-of expected that most people would not show, but we had a huge crowd at Jump2It. On all of the invitations we had requested that no one bring presents. Our theory was that since The Bean needed absolutely nothing, we would just have a huge party and ask everyone to just come and have some fun. Unfortunately, that did not translate well (they really do speak a different language here in GA). What this means is that most people ended up bringing gift cards. I felt really bad about this, and it definitely was not what was intended. If anyone has any suggestions how to get this message out for next year, please let me know.
AO went back with her parents this weekend also. She didn't want to at first, but then they told her that they would be going camping and Kayaking this weekend so she eventually went willingly. She was so good with The Bean over the past couple of weeks. I wished she could have stayed longer. Maybe she will get to come back before school starts.
Pooh is still doing really well. She's been doing a lot of swimming and has read a ton of books so far. It used to be a struggle to get her to read, but now she reads constantly. Doug has also started running with her daily. She is not enjoying this very much right now, but I've talked to her about it and she is willing to continue. She knows that we really want her to stay in shape and we are only asking that she do this for her own good. She is relatively easy to reason with for a thirteen-year-old.
Work is going better. I have been able to move cubes. I now sit in a section where there is actually light (not sunlight, but at least light.) My old cube was in a section where all of the people liked to work in the dark. I cannot understand this at all, and it was causing periodic migraines. Luckily a much larger and brighter cube opened up and I have been all smiles since then.
We are still working on all of our paperwork for the homestudy. I had no idea that I would be required to write what equates to a novel about my life and thoughts. I am not excited about this, and have been procrastinating to some extent. It is not my intention to procrastinate, but the results are the same. I need to keep focused on the final reward (a sweet Ethiopian daughter)and get busy!!!
