D has been gathering the documents that we need like crazy. I feel a little bad about not being terribly involved in the process. So far we have met with our social worker once and gotten fingerprints at the local police station twice. One set of fingerprints went to the social worker, the other Doug sent off to the FBI. CHI has also sent us a huge packet of info so that we can educate ourselves. I will begin the reading material tonight. D had his library books under the stack of education info, and I started to get a little nervous. Luckily, the actual education stuff is less than half of what I initially thought.
While Doug has been working on the paper-chase, I have been super busy. I had to travel to the middle of nowhere Maine to install some equipment. It wasn't so bad. I was able to get some really pretty pictures, and I saw two wild moose. The moose were sooooo cool. It was like seeing big nonchalant Scooby-Doo's running around. I also learned that this time of year they do not have antlers (I had thought the males always had antlers.) In case anyone is planning a trip to the middle of nowhere Maine, The Sudbury Inn Pub in Bethel has a nice selection of beer on tap. Overall, my trip there very much reminded me of that TV show "Northern Exposure" that ran in the early nineties (including some very strange conversations with the locals.)
On the day that I got back from Maine, all of D's siblings and one wife and two kids came to visit for memorial day weekend. It was a fun weekend. We rented an extra golf cart so that everyone could ride around town. One night we all went to have Mexican food and I had a really huge Margarita. In fact, all of the adults but D did. Luckily, The Bean's cousin AO is old enough to drive the golf carts. She did a great job and drove very carefully back to our house.
After everyone left, I worked one day, then took the rest of the week off to go to Kentucky to pick up Pooh. AO found out I was going to pick up Pooh and asked to come with me. So the night before we left Bran, J, AO, and NO met us halfway in Commerce so that we could get AO for the trip. The trip there was relatively good. It is definitely shorter than the trip from NOVA. We had a little fun while we were there and the girls really took advantage of the pool at the hotel. Pooh decided from our first night to stay at the hotel with us the entire time. Also, my mom threw a nice cookout/birthday party for The Bean. It was a little strange, she actually acted a little shy. I think my aunts and uncles thought she was being a brat... oh well.
The trip home was actually fun. We stopped at Mammoth Cave and did a short tour. The girls and I all decided that we would like to go camping there. I don't think Doug is convinced, yet, but maybe by the end of the summer...
