Home Visit

Today was our home visit with our social worker. It went well, I think.

Our SW showed up a couple of minutes early, so our little dog Brew was concerned that there was a stranger in the house without D here. I had to pick him up and let her hold him so he would calm down. I started showing her around the house and D finally arrived with The Bean, who he had just picked up from school. The Bean was in full performance mode, of course. She just had to be shocked at the cleanliness of the first floor 1/2 bath, vocally. This was a little embarrassing; it wasn't like our bathroom was like the "worst bathroom in London" from the movie 'Trainspotting' or anything. I mean we do actually clean from time to time. Anyway, The Bean also noticed that D had organized the pantry (I still haven't figured out why) and made an announcement about it while the SW was here. I guess, the SW wasn't totally horrified, because she told us that she should be sending our Homestudy off to CHI for review by next Friday. I am very excited, and have spent much of the day since her visit just daydreaming about going to Ethiopia and getting our children. Oh... D and I decided to change our request a little. We are now asking for a sibling group (2) from 0-5 years of age. I thought that we would be requesting up to 3 children, but D had decided that he would rather stick with two for now. I can't blame him. He will be the one who will be taking care of them during the day while I am at work, and if he feels that he is not up to taking care of 3 more children yet, then I can deal. D still feels that it is necessary that one of the children also be a girl. I would be just as happy with two boys, but it's something that D feels strongly about.

D applied for I600A several months ago, so all we are waiting on for our fingerprints is the homestudy, so I guess we'll be doing that soon. I don't know the time frame, but I am hoping that our appointment with homeland security will come before I'm off to Europe.
