D and I went to the Jack Johnson concert in Atlanta last night and it was FANTASTIC! D's Mom was in town, so we ditched the girls (they didn't mind, they had Grandma)and went down to Lakewood Amphitheater early. This was mainly because I wasn't completely sure of the directions (there's a ton of exits closed off in Atlanta due to construction) and there was supposed to be a ton of information booths for non-profit groups there.
When we arrived there really wasn't many people around. We checked out the booths, but there really weren't many. We lucked out, though, because Jack Johnson and his piano player, Zack Gill, came out to a little side stage on the far side of the amphitheater about 1/2 hour before the first opening act was supposed to begin. Jack and Zack played two songs, and there was only about 80 people watching. D and I were really close to the small stage. I felt pretty bad for the people who were waiting in their seats and on the lawn, because they completely missed it.
The first opening act, Neil Halstead, was really good and the second opening act was Rogue Wave, who is one of my favorite groups. They did a really great show, and I was sooo happy that they played my favorite of their songs, "Kicking the Heart Out"; I hadn't expected to hear it because it wasn't from their latest album.
After that Jack and his band came out and they were great from the start. Oh, and as soon as they began to play is when it seemed that the entire crowd began bringing out their seemingly endless stashes of weed. Although I did not partake, my lungs are still sore from all of the second hand "happy" smoke.
The best part about the concert was being there with D. I really can't imagine having that much fun with anyone else.
