Re-adopted

Today we met with the judge and SweetPea is now an American... well, an Ethiopian-American, anyway.
The judge was cool, it seemed as if he was happy to get away from all of the divorce proceedings and chill with us for a bit. He was really great with the girls and the whole thing only took about 15 minutes.
Oh, and the judge is the one that told them to stand on the table and he told SweetPea and The Bean to draw on the the adoption decree. I was highly amused.

Hello,
I have been following your blog. Your girls so beautiful. We are about to start the process for Ethiopia as well. We were thinking of requesting a toddler or preschool age child but leaning more toward preschool age because it seems that they understand what is going on and perhaps adjust better. I was wondering if you could give any advice or tell me how the adjustment has been with a 4 year old. Would you recommend this age to others?

I would most definitely recommend this age to others. It can be difficult at times, because children definitely have their own minds and ideas by age 4.
The children of Ethiopia are well loved, and although they have experienced great losses in their lives, SweetPea and her friends who have gone to loving families in the US are adjusting and progressing much faster than what any of us have expected. The older child adoption literature gave a pretty bleak expectation for bonding and attachment, and we were prepared for the long haul, but I have found that SweetPea is a beautiful & loving little girl who feels as if she has been with us forever.
If your family is open, I would consider and even older child if possible. D and I are currently considering going back for a twelve-year-old.

ok, how did I miss this??? (Must have been when I couldn't stalk your blog when my family was in from out of town ;) I was just looking at your archives and the title of one of the August posts, "Readopted", jumped out at me.

Congrats on your readoption, Sweetpea. Love the photos :)
